Gala Games’ Battle Royale Game, Grit, Launches Closed Beta on Epic Games Store

Gala Games’ Battle Royale Game, Grit, Launches Closed Beta on Epic Games Store

Gala Games is gearing up to kickstart its Epic Games debut by launching the closed beta of its upcoming game, Grit, a Wild West-themed shooter battle royale game similar to ‘Player Unknown: Battle Ground (PUBG).

The news comes after having announced their plans to release Superior, a super-hero co-op shooter game, on Steam, a direct competitor to Epic Games.

The closed beta will be available on the Epic Games Store starting October 20th. Gala Games released the first round of access keys to the closed beta on October 19th. Gala Games later shared that they will send new keys every week to players that sign up for the closed beta testing.

Grit: A Wild Ride to The Wild West

Gala Games’ Grit will be the first Web 3.0 battle royale game. The game was developed by Team Grit, led by industry veterans Bob Berry, Jon Mavor, and John Comes.

Particularly, John Comes, Senior Engineer at Team Grit and Co-founder of Utopos Games, has over 20 years of experience as a senior developer and has worked on popular titles such as ‘Command & Conquer: Generals’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth’.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what Grit is all about:

  • Gunslingers: Players can choose characters from the GRIT NFT Collection to play in the game. Each GRIT is a generative, ERC-721 NFT, which comes with unique traits, attributes, and distinct appearances.
  • Ride or Die: Players can compete in a last-man-standing face-off as solo, duos, or squads with their GRITs and test their skills in a battle royale shooter game set in the Wild West.
  • Perks: Players can hunt for different old-school weapons and gain special perks. Players can then mix and match perks to rank up with over 20 unique weapons and 225 million possible loadout variations to choose from.
  • Closed Beta Testing: Players need access keys shared by Gala Games to play the closed beta. Players can subscribe on the game’s website, create an Epic Games Account, and wait for an email to get an access key. Gala Games will be sharing sets of new access keys every week.

Grit is a big step in Gala Games’ campaign of contributing to the Web 3.0 space with high-caliber games. Releasing Grit to Epic Games’ 200 million users will be monumental in promoting the capabilities of blockchain games and Web 3.0.

On the Flipside

  • Not the fastest gun in the west: Grit was scheduled to be the first Web 3.0 NFT game on the Epic Games Store; however, Mythical Games’ Blankos Block Party took that spot in July this year.
  • It’s important to note that Grit will be launching as a closed beta game, meaning that only players with access keys can play it.
  • Unlike their Steam release, which is scheduled to be released by the end of the year, there is no indication of when the public launch will go live. However, considering it took this long to release the closed beta, it’s reasonable to assume that there’s still a fair bit of time left.
  • Many games in the Web 3.0 gaming space have found profound success with closed betas, especially games like Illuvium: Overworld, which is home to 100,000 players. However, it’s important to note that the success of Illuvium: Overworld came after the release of Illuvium: Arena, Illuvium’s first game.

Why You Should Care

Grit is part of Gala Games’ efforts to build the Web 3.0 gaming industry by developing and delivering competitive games to attract mass adoption. The Battle Royale genre has seen a lot of success over the years, with Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone leading the space with millions of daily players. Grit, as the first Battle Royale game in the Web 3.0 space, could be highly effective in luring mainstream adoption.
