ASUS Makes First Move Into Web 3.0 With NFT Platform Launch

On October 4th, Taiwanese laptop manufacturer ASUS announced the launch of an NFT platform, marking its first foray into the booming Web 3.0 market.

ASUS’ NFT Platform

On Tuesday, October 4th, ASUS launched its very own NFT marketplace, named ‘Art Black Hole‘. The platform currently supports Ethereum-minted NFTs, and allows collectors to purchase NFT artwork in New Taiwan dollars.

Art Black Hole’s launch is the first major project by ASUS’ new Web 3.0 division—ASUS Metaverse Inc. In order to delve further into the metaverse, ASUS’ new subsidiary aims to combine the company’s cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain capabilities.

"The NFT platform will enable more people to create personalized characters, spaces, and even unattainable dream collectibles in the metaverse through NFT by using content and IPs related to art, photography, fashion, audio and video, and games.

Asus is particularly attentive to the development of the new generation industry, especially the potential of Web3.0, so we have established a new company to declare our determination to operate the metaverse in the long term. The first step is to show the NFT platform and invite content creators from various fields to become ASUS' new partners," stated Mingjie Xie, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Asus.

Asus intends to integrate a number of well-known artists into the platform as a way to introduce diverse, high-quality artworks to its listings. In future, ASUS will also involve content producers from a variety of professions to aid them in better connecting to the metaverse.

Big Tech Companies Embrace the Metaverse

ASUS becomes the latest on a growing list of big tech companies to join the race for the metaverse. Foxconn, a Taiwanese company that produces Apple’s iPhones, entered the metaverse earlier this year by teaming up with, and investing $100 million into XRSPACE, known for creating virtual reality (VR) hardware.

Meta recently attained its long-held goal of bringing NFTs to its two leading social media platforms. As of September 29th, Facebook and Instagram users in the U.S. can now link their wallets and cross-post NFTs to both platforms.

On the Flipside

As it stands, only a select number of curated artists may list their NFTs on ASUS’ new NFT marketplace. According to the official website, the company promises to introduce a secondary market in the near future.
